Tips på turer kring Abisko slutet av juni?

Hej!

Jag och två vänner tar tåget till Abisko på midsommardagen och tänkte vandra en vecka. Vi har en biljett hem den 30/6 från Kiruna och planen är att helt enkelt knata Kungsleden till Nikkaluokta på den tiden. Men, om det nu skulle vara alldeles för mycket snö kvar i Tjäktjapasset, är det någon som har tips på andra fina turer i närheten av Abisko som vi kan ägna oss åt som alternativ?

ett första tips som planeringsverktyg är att kolla in snömängden med hjälp av sentinel-satelliten (https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/eo-br...99Z&layerId=1_TRUE_COLOR&demSource3D="MAPZEN")

Och precis som du misstänker är det gott om snö kvar uppe i Tjäktjapasset, bilden nedan är tagen igår. Däremot börjar det bli snöfritt nere i dalgångarna. Så om ni har tillgång till tält går det ju till exempel att vika av frång Kungsleden ner till Vistasvagge och följa den dalgången ner till Nikkaloukta. En annan fin tur (som även den i princip kräver tält) är att runda Abiskoalperna, genom Lapporten och sen västerut till Abiskojaure.

Vill man bo i stuga och undvika Tjäktapasset är det väl främst fram-och-tillbaka - turer som erbjuds runt Abisko, som in till Unna Allakasstugorna tur och retur.

Ett annat eventuellt möjligt alternativ är att gå den södra delen av Kungsleden från Vakkatovare upp till Nikkaloukta, som borde vara hyffsat snöfri om en vecka. Men jag har ingen koll om det går några bussar dit än.

Enligt tidtabellen började sommarturerna mellan Gällivare och Ritsem köras 15/6.

Tack för svar! Bra idé att kanske ta sig lite längre söderut och hålla sig i dalgångarna. Ett alternativ som jag fnular på nu är att hoppa av tåget i Kiruna och börja vandringen i Nikka, och ta Kungsleden söderut mot Vakkotavare och avsluta där. Det känns som att man har mer alternativ om man är på "rätt" sida Tjäktjapasset till att börja med...

Vi har förresten tält med oss! Jag är tältvan men för mitt resesällskap är det första gången i fjällen med tält, så vi tänkte hålla oss rätt nära stugorna utifall att.

Låter som ett klokt val och personligen gillar jag den delen Kungsleden bättre än den norra.
Kan dock vara värt att påpeka att med den mängden snö som är kvar kan även ganska små bäckar bli ett ganska utmanande hinder vid varmt väder eller regn.

May I hijack the thread for the 2024 season?!

I arrive in Kiruna on the 26th of June.
The plan is to summit Kebnekaise and then walk north to Abisko.
My window is 26-2.
I frontload the ascend to Kebnekaise to buy myself time for weather and be fresh and pain/blister free.
Worst case scenario, I spend most of the time at/near Kebnekaise and then just return to Kiruna.

Do you have any suggestions on the planning, specially with regard to the snow conditions at Tjäktjä pass.
I will be relying on cabins for sleeping, so routes requiring wild camping to overnight are excluded.
Any online sources or reports for snow conditions, besides the helpful link above, are very welcome.

Then, you can ask at the Kebnekaise station. Or possibly walk to Singis / Sälka and then back.

Another thought, if I get lucky with the weather, is to back track to Nikkaluokta and then go the Vistas-Alejaure-Abisko route. The cabin at Vistas opens for hikers just in time for that on the 28th.
How much of the nice scenery do I miss this way?

It probably is a combination of own observations (if they find the time for a day hike) comunicated between the wardens and information they got from hikers or service people on the trail.

Probably you exchange snowfields to wet areas. Depending on how far you can get a boat transfer up in Vistasvagge it can be a quite long day from Nikkaluokta to Vistas.
You will miss the most of the scenery above the tree-line which is what many people see as the nice scenery and walk probably quite a bit through nice birch-forest instead. I have by now never hiked in Vistasvagge in summer - only skied there in winter and crossed it once - so I can only judge from pictures...

Please notice that the link in this thread shows an image from 2023. The most recent clear view of the area is from June 22. There you find less snow than last year, and very little in the Tjäktja pass.

Thank you for pointing that out. I just got back, and the conditions on the field where as you describe. Virtually zero snow at Tjaktja pass, maybe 20-30 meters, 10cm deep snow patch at the very top. Maybe even that has melted away by now.

Luckily the weather 26-27-28 of June was also great for hiking to the top. So I was among the many people who got to enjoy a great view from Kebnekaise during these days.

The trip was a great success and wish the same for all of yours.
