Torkade grönsaker i mataffären - ny produkt för mig
I can get these in the United States. They are from the Netherlands and sold in the Dutch import stores. It helps to live in the largest community of Dutch immigrants in the US. I add a couple of scoops to all of my dehydrated hiking meals.- OddManOut

Koka gröt
I just pour boiling water over rolled oats, with cinnamon, sugar, powdered milk. I find if I boil it, the starch granules dissolve completely and it turns to glue. Tastes OK until it cools. Then the pan is impossible to clean.- OddManOut

Resa till Kvikkjokk
In the US we say Jinx. Yes, I follow these posts with a with a browser that automatically translates. But sometimes the translations are curious as all languages have expressions that don't translate literally. I genuinely appreciate the insights and info.- OddManOut

Samiska namn ?
I am a 65 year old Swedish American who has tried, but failed to learn Swedish. I was visiting ancestral farms near Eksjö and my guide spent 15 trying to teach me how to pronounce Eksjö and I never could. As for spelling, I have a hard time spelling English. My only hope is to do my best, copy...- OddManOut

Resa till Kvikkjokk
Thanks. As I would be flying into ARN from the US, it is difficult to arrive early enough to connect to a flight to KRN. But I could take local train to Uppsala, get food and fuel, and get the night train from there. Can I assume alcohol stove fuel is available anywhere gas canister fuel is?- OddManOut

Sawyer micro - finns bra tyngdkraftspåse?
I have two of the 2L size, one for dirty and one for clean. They are different colors to keep them straight. I prefer the Hydroblu Versaflow filter. It has threads on both sides. Easier to use for gravity. Easier to clean, filters faster than the Sawyer mini. Not sure if it is sold outside USA- OddManOut

Samiska namn ?
I am planning a trip and am reading place names on maps, bus from the USA, Sedish and Sami are both foreign to me. I know Swedish has letters not used in English. Å, Ä, Ö. On the maps I see names with other letters. Are these the Sami names. Do these letters have Swedish equivalent, or...- OddManOut

Etikett vid bastu
As a foreign novice planning a trip to the mountains, I find this discussion useful. I have no problems with what to wear (or not to wear) and will have my small microfiber pack towel for sitting on. But have other questions about the process. I have read one is to bring water to the sauna...- OddManOut

Resa till Kvikkjokk
I am following this discussion as I am also interested in taking this trip. I had some questions. About train versus plane. Even if a plane is less expensive, wouldn't those savings be eliminated by the additional cost of an overnight hotel stay on the way which is not necessary if sleeping on...- OddManOut

Kängor eller trailskor?
I do not think you have strange feet. Your post describes my experience perfectly. One thing I do is to wash and dry my feet every day and then rub them with a salve (thick, non water soluble ointment). It feels wonderful, provides lubrication to prevent blisters and helps keep water out of you...- OddManOut

Tips på lättare tält - Lanshan?
The Lanshan Web page says their 2 Pro is a single wall tent. Are the Durston X-Mid tents not available in Sweden? I have an Xmid1Pv2 (in the US) and like it very much.- OddManOut

Fota natur, fina vyer och fjäll
I have been using a Fujifilm XE3 for a few years. I wanted something better than a mobile phone, but not too big and bulky and expensive for backpacking with. I picked Fujifilm because It has an APS-C sensor so can give excellent image quality. But when used with a small pancake lens, it is not...- OddManOut

Resa två som singel
I agree. I usually go on trips alone. But I have observed that on may forums and articles you will read that you should never hike alone because it is dangerous. I find it sad how much some people give up because they have been told to be afraid of everything.- OddManOut

Otillgänglighetspolen
Using the information from this post by Hans Fowelin https://www.utsidan.se/blogs/fowwe/platsen-som-ligger-langst-bort-om.htm I looked it up on Google Earth. The spot is marked but the location is off by 120 meters. I marked a spot on the exact coordinates according to Fowelin and used the...- OddManOut

Jojo-leden / Trepassleden
Thanks. I don't have training or experience on ropes or ice ax and I certainly don't have a "team", so perhaps I should not consider the south pass. Perhaps I could hike up and back to Svarta sjön from the north if it with seeing. I may at least check out the north pass. I'm generally OK with...- OddManOut

Thank you. That is the app I have been using to explore routes. It is where I found the name Kaskavagge. I Google Svarta Sjön and fount it is the lake in the southern pass. It seems there are many names and spellings for locations. I enjoy digging through maps AMF finding places I want to...- OddManOut

Jojo-leden / Trepassleden
I was wondering, if one wanted to avoid the difficult glacier above Tarfala, is it reasonable to go down Kaskavaggi to the bridge the south and west to Tarfala? I see that route is shown on the map. Also, am I correct the pass going south from Unna Räita is on the west side of Pyramiden? That...- OddManOut

Sorry I did not get to Sweden this year. Instead I hiked 5 days in Isle Royale National Park, Michigan, USA. Isle Royale is the largest island (72×14 km) in Lake Superior (world's largest freshwater lake). The entire island is a wilderness park, only accessible by boat or seaplane. There are...- OddManOut
