Nån som har nåt att tillägga? Är det inte mycket vatten den årstiden?

Hey,

I am going to be in Sweden the first 2 weeks of April and I am looking to hike some of the remote areas/national parks. I know that in April a lot of the national parks will be under snow. Are they still possible to hike? Also any suggestions as to which would be the best national parks to hike at this time of year. I have a lot of experience hiking but am reasonably new to the winter hiking.


Any suggestions would be great thank you.

There would still be winter conditions in the Swedish mountains (from Grövelsjön in the south and northwards) during the first two weeks of April. Hiking that time of the year would mean travel by ski (or snowshoes).

Most people hiking in the Lapland mountains that time of year ski along Kungsleden (The Kings trail) and stay overnight in cabins managed by STF (Swedish Tourist Organization). In April there is a host/hostess in each of them who will welcome you. You bring your own sleeping bag and food, but you can also buy basic food in some cabins. However, no meals are being served.

The most popular route is from Abisko to Nikkaluokta via Kebnekaise mountain lodge. That trip will take about seven days plus extra days in the case of bad weather or other problems.

If you want to hike, not ski or use snowshoes, I'd recommend going somewhere else then the mountain areas. One nice place would be Skuleskogen or the whole High Coast Trail (app. 7 days). There could be some snow left in April, but not a lot. It's hikable for sure.
More south there are some really nice national parks and walking trails as well. If you want it to be proper spring I'd recommend the south.
