No skating yet in Holland
No real tourskating this weekend (19/12) in Holland. Ice was almost ready, 3 - 4 cm on small canals, but yesterday 10 - 30 cm (!!) snow has come. Very rare in Holland, so much snow.
People will be skating, and movies on YouTube will pop up, but only on fields where a few cm water has been put on, to freeze. Each small town is trying to make a local "ice-court" now.
For tourskating like last year we have to wait for new ice on bigger canals which are still open. Coming nigths will be very cold, so maybe on monday? But, forecast says cold weather stops after tuesday/wednesday.

Skating started today 3 jan 2010 in Holland
I returned from Sweden yesterday 2/1/10 (good skating in Värmland!) and to my surprise I could already skate today 3/1/10 in Holland, because on some undeep lakes and canals the old ice from december still was there. See some isobs on SN.
Hollands LSK skated premiärtur idag i Nieuwkoop, 19 km, on 6 -10 cm stöpis with few mm torr ej fastfrusen snö på.
Norr om linien Amsterdam - Hengelo (incl Friesland) there fell a lot of snow, already in december, but again also last night.
Best skating now in Holland is somewaht more to the south, like Nieuwkoop. Maybe big waters that are still open today can freeze coming week. Some very cold nights below -10 predicted.
