Kungsleden in Early July

Hello,

I’m planning a hike on the Kungsleden from Abisko to Nikkaloukta starting on July 2. I was referred to this forum by members of Backpacking Light, who recommended I ask here (in English) to get a sense of what the trail conditions will be like at that time. I’ve heard that Spring is late this year, and I’d like to insure that the snow won’t prevent a successful hike of that section. I realize that it may be too early to predict the snow conditions in early July, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Myles

Hi,
The spring seems late indeed, so you should prepare for quite some (rotten) snow in the higher parts, mainly the pass at Tjäktja. Also, in the lower areas it will probably be quite boggy and wet. I haven't hiked all the way myself from Abisko to Nikkaluokta along the Kungsleden, but the west side of the lake Alisjavri, north of Alesjaure huts are quite wet.

I don't know how much else you know about northern lapland, but you need to be prepared for frost and snow or sleet all through the summer.
