Kirgizistan 2013
The Ala Archa National Park is an alpine national park in the Tian Shan mountains of Kyrgystan, established in 1976 and located approximately 40 km south of the capital city of Bishkek.
I traveled to Kyrgyzstan together with my classmate Erik Törnblom (that previously has biked form Sweden to Cape Town). We both have a passion for mountains and decided to travel to this relatively unexplored area. During the trip we mountaineered along the mountains in Ala Archa and in the eastern parts of the country close to the Karakol. The country has a large amount of high alpine terrain that has easy access and peaks up to 7000m (Peak Lenin). I must say that this was maybe the most impressive mountains that I have ever seen.
The trip was a great learning experience in how to cross glaciers, what equipment that works well at high altitude, navigating using bad (Russian) maps and how to find your way back when you get lost in bad weather.
