Ice in Nova Sctia, Canada

Hej igen,

We now have some good ice in Nova Scotia, Canada. Feb 16-17
there was rain and +5 C temperature, Then we had
temperatures -10C for a few days.

On a small lake Feb 18, I met 2 REAL Swedish skaters! They
have only been living here for 2 years and haven't done much
skating, since Nova Scotia hasn't had much good ice the last
few years. The lady was using a new pair of Lundhags for
Telemark boots, but the man was wearing his grandmother's
old "Gillbergare", wood skates with leather straps. I have
the "SSSK 1901-2001" book, there is a picture of Gillbergare
on p 99. I hope I can go out of the ice with the
couple soon.

I find it very difficult to take "action photos" while
skating! I was trying to hold and aim my camera with one
hand, hold my poles in the other and I tripped over my
poles. There was no serious damage to me or my camera :) So
I do not have many skating photos. Most of my photos are
"still life" or of spark (kicksled).

Feb 19 we had a excellent day on the ice at Gaspereau
Lake. There were 3 of us on sparks, Sheila (Wolfville),
Lesley (Halifax) and myself (Wolfville). Lesley and I also
had touring skates with us. Lesley has become very good on
her new touring skates, so she skated even more than I did.

Feb 20 there was a local snowstorm at Gaspereau Lake (5 cm
snow) but no snow here, only 15 km away. We tried skating,
there is still smooth ice but it was very difficult to see
the bumps.

Feb 20, I checked out the ice on the Avon River, near
Windsor (44-57N, 64-12W). I sparked up the river about 4km,
came back and then skated the 8 km round trip.
