Virtual skate museum (English/nederlands)

It is a description and history of many types of old skates, mostly from
Netherlands. There are English and Nederlands (Dutch) versions.

The English version does not show the Swedish Gillbergs skates, but
the Dutch version does:

The Dutch started making aluminium profile skates before 1950
but they were not successful because ice froze to the aluminium profile:

I would also like to know if there is a Swedish site showing
some of the skates from the SSSK 1901-2001 book, p 96-101.

finns privata samlare av skridskor som har flera hundra olika modeller. I det perspektivet är det virtuella skridskomusset rätt litet.

Finns också böcker i varje fall på holländska. Jag har för mig att Rolf Gezelius skrivit i en SSSK-årsskrift från 80-talet om en holländsk bekant Anrie Broere som har en stor samling och som skrivit en bok.

Kanadensiska skridskor är de skridskor med trästock som var förebilder för de olika svenska långfärdsskridskorna som tillverkades kring sekelskiftet 1900 och framåt. De var grövre än de skridskor som finns på de blider som du länkat till.

I am sorry David but I am not an expert in the history of skates and skating. The only thing I can add is to mention the (famous in Holland) Dutch Skating Museum in Hindeloopen, Friesland.

On their website www.schaatsmuseum.nl they promise to have the following things in their museum:

- the biggest skates collection in the world;
- different sections on all skating categories: tourskating, speedskating, marathon, etc;
- different section for each winner of Elvastadloppet since 1909;
- unique specialties such as a frozen toe, lost by the owner while skating;
- the stamps-card of Piet Kleine, with his missed stamp during the Elvastadloppet of 1997.
