History.

The expeditions in the old times tried to cross the plateau with the help of huge caravans with camels, yaks, horses and sheep. Littledale's team started with approximately 50 men and close to 300 pack animals. They never reached Lhasa. Less than ten of the animals survived and the expedition members was in a miserable condition. Sven Hedin also tried to cross the Chang Tang at more than one occassion and spent long periods of time on the huge plateau.
He also never reached Lhasa.

Our own experiences of the Chang Tang goes to the outskirts of it in 1997. Janne cycled the northern route between Dongco and Ali/Shiquanhe.

In the year of 2000 Nadine and Janne tried to cross the Altun Shan, in order to reach the plateau from the north, but due to misleading information and Nadine coming down with pneumonia, the journey was abandoned at an early stage.

In 2002 Nadine and Janne cycled the Kerriya Route from Sumxi to Pu Lu
